1 Timothy 2:8–15
Paul gives instructions for worship and order in the church. He encourages men to pray everywhere with lifted hands, free from anger and division (v. 8). Women are instructed to dress modestly, focusing on good works rather than outward adornment (vv. 9–10). Paul emphasizes that women should learn quietly and with respect, not taking authority over men in the teaching role within the church gathering (vv. 11–12). He refers back to the creation account—Adam being formed first and Eve being deceived—as the basis for this order (vv. 13–14). Paul concludes with a reminder that women, though Eve was deceived, are not without honor or purpose, for through childbearing and continuing in faith, love, holiness, and self-control, they too live out their godly calling (v. 15).
This passage emphasizes prayerful worship, modesty, order in teaching roles, and the value of godly living for both men and women within the household of faith.
